Today in class we. . . took WS test 6.   got a new WS word (hypocrisy).   continued studying punctuating quotations.   learned about how to use Evernote for research.  

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (wretched).   practiced punctuating quotations.   began a Works Cited page for the persuasive essay we'll work on for the next couple weeks.  

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (stereotype). practiced punctuating quotations.   created a folder in Gdocs for this paper "Persuasive Essay 1."   finished Parphrase 2. some students began Paraphrase 3.

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (introspection).   practiced punctuating quotations.   created a GoogleDoc called Paraphrase 2 and share with Ms. Nielsen.   picked a second article from SIRS on your topic.   paraphrased it in that Gdoc.  

Today in class we. . . got WS T5 back.   got a new WS word (divulge).    learned about punctuating quotations.   identified an article in SIRS (from Viewpoint 1 or 2) on the topic selected on Friday.   printed the article.   highlighted the important information.   made a copy of a google doc called Paraphrase 1 and shared w/ Ms. Nielsen.   paraphrase the article in a table provided in the Google Doc. 

Today in class we. . .   took WS T5.  got a new WS word (laconic).  discussed & took notes on pronoun-antecedant agreement.  told Ms. Nielsen your preferences for debate teams.  chose persuasive essay topics (check "shared with me" folder). 

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (ephemeral).  practiced using the CRAAP test on some hoax websites.  Currency Relevance Authority Accuracy Purpose

Today in class we . . . got a new WS word (voracious).   learned how to use in-text citations with quotations.   played the "Find someone who..." game.   learned about evaluating sources.  

Today in class we. . . got a new word study word (fallacy).  learned how to use in-text citations (parenthetical notations).  discussed reliable vs. unreliable online sources. 

Today in class we. . . got WS T4 back. got a new WS word (impertinent).  learned about punctuating quotations.   discussed (and took notes on) how to take effective notes.  

Today in class we. . . took WS T4.   got a new WS word (pulverize).   learned how to format a paper using MLA.   worked on creating a Works Cited page.  Due M 9/18/17 -- A mock up of an MLA paper with a Works Cited page that has two article you've found on SIRS.  Share in Google Docs.  

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (vacillate).   took notes on assorted common conventions errors.   finish notes on the MLA Works Cited Elements .   find another article from SIRS on your topic; fill in the Works Cited Elements sheet for it.   Tomorrow:  WS Test 4

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word.   learned how to format research papers per MLA.   revised your paraphrases using the rubric .   started learning how to create MLA Works Cited entries. 

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (mortify).  learned about when to italicize titles vs. when to put quotation marks around them.   paraphrased the SIRS article you chose yesterday.   Due tomorrow:  completed paraphrase in Google Docs . 

Today (9/11/17) in class we. . . got WS test 3 back.  discussed how those tests are assessed.  discusssed how to reassess them (it happens automatically each Friday).  got a new WS word (adversary).  learned when to write out numbers according to MLA.  chose a SIRS topic that you were interested in but didn't know much about yet. chose an article on that topic.  pasted the content of the article into a Google doc and shared it with Ms. Nielsen. 

Today in class we. . . Took WS Test 3. Got a new WS word (profusion). took a brief quiz over The History of English. Coded the rest of the SIRS topics. 

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (ponderous). Finished the notes on the History of English power point . Went over more of your SIRS sticky notes.   Remember:  Word Study Test 3 tomorrow! 

Today in class we. . . got a new WS word (appalled). finished the SIRS initial research. took notes on the history of English .

Today in class we. . . Got WS T2 back. Took notes on how to improve writing.   Discussed how WS tests are graded. Got a new WS word (rogue).  Continued to share SIRS initial research. 

Today in class we. . . Took Word Study Test 2. got a new WS word (nocturnal).  worked on the SIRS Initial Research Google Doc (block 1). shared our Initial Research Google Doc (block 3 & 4).
